Blasphemous rumours

by MarkJT @ 21 Mar. 2008 - 23:51:26

Jesus existed. He was a real person. Or at least someone with his outlook on life did. Trouble is, in those days, there was no printing, television or internet. So it was mainly word of mouth.

‘That Jesus bloke talks a lot of sense, doesn’t he?’

Somehow though his story got hijacked by those in power to keep us under control. If Jesus was such a good person then we should all be like him and if you’re not then you’ll go to hell – or something like that.

But there are other human beings who stand out – Gandhi, Mandela, King, Mother Theresa. All people with great standards and morals.

In thousands of years they’ll be revered like the bloke with the long hair and a beard.

Good analogy.
I prefer to look at Jesus as, how can I say...the Paul Daniels of his day. He did magic tricks (not a lot) but people were more gullible in those days and word got round that this bloke could cut women in half yet they came out of the box alive again. Word spread and husbands came from miles around with their wives to try and prove him wrong.

The thing is this.........Jesus and his disciples, otherwise known as agents and hangers on, spotted a niche in the all round good egg market - make an outrageous claim ie I am the son of God, and secure your place in history.
The benefits of rumour building rumour and the lack of accurate communication have managed to keep the ball rolling, in order to ensure the gullible remain gullibe til today!
Jesus 1 - Gandhi 0 Respect!
Best not to worry too much about the power and control issues - there'll always be someone who wants to control the free thinkers. Lets all swear allegence to Lizzy, put out our cigarettes, empty our glasses and have a healthy salad!
